what is a case study?

Case studies, or customer success stories, are based on interviews with your happy customers. They provide social proof by demonstrating how your customer solves their problem by using your product.

Case studies are effective

Case studies work because they come from a trusted source – someone who has used (and loved) your product or service.

Customers nowadays are savvy about online marketing and suspicious of big promises and unsupported claims.

They want to hear from someone just like them.

They want to know what that person thinks of a product or service, not what a business says about it.

Case studies can be repurposed.

There are loads of ways to repurpose your case study.

Here are some examples:

  • A blog post on your site
  • A guest post on another site/industry update
  • In a newsletter
  • As part of an email marketing campaign
  • In a sales brochure
  • As social media posts
  • To provide internal training for your staff

So why aren’t you using them?

In my experience, it’s usually because:

  • It’s hard to find the right customer – this happens when you don’t have a system in place.
  • You don’t want to ask your customer – it’s awkward enough asking for a testimonial, but a whole case study?
  • You don’t know the right questions to ask – is there a process for this?
  • Case studies? Who has time to write case studies?

How much do you charge?

The price depends on the length and number of case studies, but a ballpark figure starts around $497.

Do you do video?

I mainly work with text, but I have worked with a videographer to do combined video and text case studies. I live in Southern Queensland, so you’d need to be in Brisbane or near there, sorry!

Using Zoom to provide some visual content is also an option.

What is the process?

This is my case study process:

  • It’s best if you contact your chosen case study client first, to give them a heads up.
  • You and I have a briefing chat where I learn about your business, your client and their story.
  • I take it from there, arranging the client interview, conducting the interview, writing the draft and sending it to you both for approval.
  • You (and/or your client) provide the images.
  • I finalise the draft and send it you, along with a guide on using the case study.

Can you design the final version?

If you don’t have a designer in mind, I can work with a designer in my network.

There is an additional charge for this.
